Topic Proposal/Outline: Develop a provisional thesis and general argumentative direction. Mention at least five direct quotations from your chosen text– that you will be incorporating into your argument, and include potential topics for each body paragraph. Classmate’s work:
The text references several telemarketing scams, such as bogus pills that promise to help with weight to offering land investments that were never real. However, more recently, we have seen other telemarketing scams. With the rise of internet usage, we have seen telemarketing scams about cryptocurrency. Many individuals promise that the ‘coin’ will double in value or have the chance of becoming profitable, yet many of them turn out to be flukes or complete lies. People will invest, and yet there will be no return on profit. Most get scammed out of their money and cannot get it back. As referenced in the text, cryptocurrency has targeted not only the elderly but has now gone into a younger generation who think they understand more about protecting against scams. Yet many want to be part of the crowd, invest and get the ‘promised’ result, just as they may have seen others receive over social media. Yet instead, they are left with little to their name or have a loss in their supposed investments. Many of these individuals do not understand cryptocurrency, do not recognize the red flags, and will often fall for it. As Rosoff mentions in the text, people who believe they are less likely to get scammed are those who do (2020).
Due to how recent cryptocurrency is, it has become difficult to protect against. There are little to no consumer laws for those who use cryptocurrency, and there is even less punishment under criminal law; at this point, it has been very limited. Numerous scammers aren’t within the United States, and it is hard to identify who is behind the online identity. Cybercrime is another issue; with laws struggling to catch up with modern technology, it is more difficult for the laws to protect against cryptocurrency scams. However, there have been strides to prevent these large scams, such as in the case of Sam Bankman-Fried, where this individual allegedly used customer funds fraudulently. He has been arrested at this time. His business was legit, and yet he used funds fraudulently. Unfortunately, there is little a company can do to stop these, as there are limited laws to protect consumers.

The project for this course is the creation of a critical analysis essay. Writing is a craft that allows people to express themselves in various ways. The ability to articulate a message through writing is essential in any career. The writing process can be very intimidating; however, the more you work with it, the more comfortable the process becomes.
You developed a thesis about the information presented in the article you selected, and now, you will support that thesis through a critical analysis essay.
Directions
In this project, you will follow the writing process to revise your critical analysis essay draft from previous assignments. Once your thesis is established, you will use evidence from the reading to support it throughout your essay.
There is no right or wrong thesis—it is how you support your thesis that makes your essay effective. To thoroughly revise the work, be sure to refer to your instructor’s feedback. Finally, proofread your final draft and correct any errors you may find. This assignment will be submitted in Brightspace.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
Introduction: This paragraph is where readers will have a chance to get an idea of what your essay will be about. Do not give all your information away here. Instead, give readers a sample of what is to come and what points you will be supporting with evidence in the essay’s body.
Provide an overview of the work you have analyzed by briefly describing the main points and your thoughts about the writing.
Compose a thesis that you will support with evidence throughout the essay. This statement will give direction to your essay and should be well thought out.
